'Come and see'
'…They came and saw…and remained with Him…' John 1:39 NKJ
The country's most famous evangelist is in town and you've gone to hear him speak. But all he talks about is someone better who's coming soon. So what do you do? Stay where you are or go to try and find the guy he's talking about? Well, duh! Can you blame Andrew and his mates for going off to hunt out Jesus, and find out if He really was as incredible as John the Baptist was saying? They knew the only way to find out was to spend time with the man Himself, find out what floated His boat, what made Him tick—so they did. When they found Him, His response was to tell them to 'come and see'. So what exactly did He want them to see? (1) See how He handles power. Not once did Jesus use His power to impress others or enrich Himself in any way. (2) See how He handles people. He didn't see them as interruptions, irritations or obstacles on His path to personal fulfilment. No. '…when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion…' (Matthew 9:36 NKJ) (3) See how He handles priorities. '…vast crowds came to hear him… But Jesus often withdrew to the wilderness for prayer.' (Luke 5:15-16 NLT) Did He know something we don't? No commitment is harder to keep, or more important, than spending time in prayer each day.
