Chain reaction
'Then it happened…' 2 Samuel 11:2 NKJ
He was the Jack Bauer of the ancient world. David rocks Goliath, David goes on the run when the king decides he's a threat. It's a right royal thriller—after all, David gets to be king. But then things began to unravel when he let down his guard. The Bible says, 'Then it happened.' What a teaser! David was coasting into middle-age, getting soft, letting other people fight his battles while he stayed home. Maybe, as he was standing on the palace rooftop that night, he wondered, 'Do I still have it?' Then his eyes caught sight of a total babe: Bathsheba. But it's what he didn't see that ruined him. He didn't see that sleeping with her would eventually make him into a murderer. He didn't see that in the years ahead four of his children would die as a result. He didn't see that his action would eventually split his kingdom in half. That's the problem with sin: it always sets off a chain reaction. If you're doing things you shouldn't be doing, watch out! You're not seeing the whole picture. David tried all sorts of things to cover his tracks. They just made things worse and he still got caught! Sin always stirs up a whole load of future trouble that's impossible to see at the time. Seriously, sin is not worth it! Think again before you trigger a chain reaction like David did.Soulfood: Rom 7:1-9:16, Matt 13:24-35, Ps 134, Pr 4:5-13
